The problem that our client faced was providing safe access to the top of petroleum tankers while inspections are being carried out. This meant that mechanics had to climb onto the top of tankers which presented a risk of falls from height.
Rope Task supplied the KEE LINE safety system and installed the system to additional structural steel that was specifically designed and engineered to take the loadings that will be generated if a fall occurs and the fall arrest systemis loaded.
The KEE LINE fall arrest system was pre-installed at ground level to reduce the risks from working at height.
The structural steel and fall protection system were then installed to the existing steel beams within the roof structure.
The fall arrest system now provides a safe means of access to the top of all petroleum tankers. Tankers are reversed under the bay with the fall protection system installed overhead. The mechanic will then don a full body harness, a fall arrest block has been fitted to the fall protection system with the bottom of the cable secured at ground level. This then allows the mechanic to safely climb the ladder at the rear of the tanker walk along the length of the tanker and return to ground level with no risk of falling from height, due to being attached to the fall arrest system at all times.
